10 Eats : Nasi Ahmad, It's All About The Gravy

Wednesday, 11th March. Hubs and I had just left Big Bad Wolf Books HQ in Shah Alam, after a tour of the place and to collect one of the best things in life, something that I'd been waiting for since my Birthday in Jan. Aah, but let's not stray. This is supposed to be about my fantastic lunch!

It cost us RM33 or was it RM38, a portion that is meant for four, for two greedy people who overate. We were, however, wise enough to ask for half the portion of rice. That night, we stuck to eating a pitiful small sandwich for dinner.

Nasi Ahmad sells nasi kandar, Kedah style. Fluffy yellow rice topped with splashes of gravy from various pots of curry.  A choice of meat, seafood and vegetables. Normal people pick one meat and one vegetable - hubs and I had two squids, a huge piece of mutton, a thick omelette, chicken drumstick, lots of okra, brinjal and bitter gourd. All I can say is - Hey, it's hard to choose when everything made our mouth water. Standing in line and thinking too long about it wasn't a polite option so we went with 'ok-this-this-this-this-THIS'.

I was impressed. This was definitely something we would look back upon and laugh about how crazy it was that we wiped the plates clean. It was the most satisfying meal. A very delicious spread. The gravy was really good, nothing that screamed over the top flavourwise. I have only a feeling of I-need-to-come-here-again.  And I will ;)

20 Eat Out : Amelio, Desa ParkCity

It's been too long since I last saw my cutie-pie months old nephew Damien and my lovely cousin, Jo. Coincidentally, it was Jo's Birthday so I treated her to lunch. This was last Friday, which was a public holiday for us.

We had such a great time at Amelio restaurant. The waiters were attentive and oh-so-kind, regularly checking in on us to ask if we were comfortable. The food is great too!

Although it was tempting to eat in an air-conditioned space, we chose to sit outside, embracing fresh air, sun and beautiful scenery.

Hubs and I shared a plate of tender Whisky BBQ Pork Ribs and a juicy Teriyaki Pork Burger. My pictures don't do justice at all - the BBQ pork ribs was so delicious that I wished I had the whole plate to myself!

This pork burger is delicious too, moist on the inside and with the teriyaki sauce poured over, it's something I would consider ordering again.

Jo ordered the Pork Burger with BBQ Sauce and Bacon whilst her hubs ordered a classic big breakfast of eggs, sausage and bacon. They enjoyed their meal too.

Drinks were chilled refreshing lemongrass tea which I hadn't thought to take pictures of but am still thinking about today as I write this post, craving for a glass.

After lunch, we took a short walk to the carpark at the back where a circus was being set up. Tickets are priced from RM39 onwards and was already on sale in front of Aeon Maxvalu. Based on past reviews, this is one show you shouldn't miss because the acrobatics are amazing!

Before meeting up with my cousin for lunch at Amelio, hubs and I popped into Three Little Birds Coffee on the ground floor and ordered this awesome hot chocolate. This little cafe offers a great view of the lake and garden at Desa ParkCity. It is a nice place to chill.

That's about it on my date with my cousin and little nephew who drooled over our meal with his mouth open, hoping we'd offer him a taste. Not so soon, tiny one!

20 Eat Out : The Living Room, Westin KL

It was a Public Holiday for us last Wednesday. Hubs and I decided on lunch at The Living Room, Westin KL, an open but cosy place where we could relax and enjoy each other's company. As we had hoped, it was quiet with nary a soul except the waiter and waitress who attended to us.

We could see the main entrance of the hotel from where we were seated. I realised it was raining when I looked outside and saw a lady holding a vibrant red umbrella up walking by. Behind her was another person holding a white one. Squinting my eyes, I saw the drizzle of light rain. It was the perfect weather for our lunch date, the song Singin' In The Rain  playing in my mind.

The menu carried both local and international food, some affordable, some pricey. I ordered steamed black cod fish in delicious light soy sauce with the greens. It was served with a plate of rice. Hubs went with beef tenderloin on mashed potatoes. We rounded that up with a beautiful meringue pie.

All in, we had a wonderful time and were well taken care of by Westin KL's attentive employees. We paid RM40 for the entire meal after deducting cash vouchers.

20 The Magnificent Croissant At Le Bread Days

There was once a huge hoo-ha over these molten salted egg yolk croissants - long queues, shortage, frustrated customers.

Me? I'm late for the party as usual, which is a really good thing. 😉  I strolled into the fairly empty  bakery around 10am last Sunday for breakfast. The hype, I guess, was over. It was my Birthday and I thought what better way to celebrate it than to go where I hadn't been before. Google provided me with lots of suggestions but here I was in this neat and cosy cafe getting my hot chocolate fix and trying out the famed croissant. It was the perfect start to my day.

A long time ago, I told my friend that life was short and we should look forward to planning and celebrating our own Birthdays instead of going low-key. It's wonderful to catch up with close friends and family, aaaand for the past few years, I have also been setting aside an extra day or two for myself to do the stuff I want. Often, I would choose a quiet staycation or getaway.

But back to my pleasurable experience at Le Bread Days - I fell in love with the croissants, of course. They were heavenly. Sweet, salty, creamy, it is stuff that you can easily overeat. The ambiance of the place was amazing. It was serene and I felt a sense of bliss. I liked that it was only us and another customer sitting in the white interior designed cafe.

The wife: Uh ..Ling, I do it myself, ok ... (laugh-die-me moment) 😅 😆 Hubs gave me a sheepish grin that said 'Oh-my-God-I-messed-it-up-so-badly'.

I treasure small moments of funniness such as these. A smile creeping up on our lips whilst we reminisce candid times is the best feeling in life!

20 Croissant Taiyaki, Pavilion KL

Right, I had envisioned a quiet December to reflect on the year but it turned out to be my busiest month, not that I'm complaining since I'm having a lot of fun!

My cousin flew in from East Malaysia days ago. I alerted the rest of the relatives in KL and we decided to all meet for lunch at Pavilion, a mall just opposite the hotel she was staying in.

That's how I came to know about this cute looking croissant. I was checking out for places to eat!

We ordered green tea custard and ham with cheese. One sweet and one savoury. Both were really delicious.

A little googling told me that Taiyaki is a Japanese fish-shaped pancake. This was made with a little twist and hence the name - Croissant Taiyaki.

14 Eat Out : The Yums At Franco, The Curve

We celebrated Malaysia's Independence Day with food. Surprisingly, none of it local! Thai, Fusion and Western cuisine ruled the week. 

Jen, my best bud, stayed over for three nights. We had a great time catching up with life, did a bit of window-shopping and tried out restaurants we had never stepped foot into before. Franco, being one of these places.

I've always wanted to come here. Franco is a French Japanese fusion restaurant that has 'fine dining' tagged to its name. The food, as we expected, is pricier than what we would usually go for but it is a special occasion and we didn't feel that it hurt the wallet too much.

We had Squid Ink Rice. It was a beautiful combination of strongly flavoured seafood that matched the plainer-tasting egg and rice. I absolutely loved this dish! So sedap-lah (delicious-lah).

Then, we ordered two desserts. Ahem, stressed is desserts spelled backwards ; surely more was the way to go! The warm vanilla souffle was beautifully made. It was yum at first bite and I wished I'd ordered the chocolate one too but we were already half full as it was.

The Adzuki red bean with Matcha softee is a delightful treat to end the meal. I must say that I found great satisfaction in having the souffle along with a teaspoonful of matcha softee; it was a matcha made in heaven!

14 Eat Out: Namoo Korean Dessert Cafe n Bistro on the park

What better way to connect with people than food. The women in my family are all ardent home cooks. It's no surprise that we have a lot in common to talk about and no shortage of happy memories built around scrumptious Birthday meals and the fun of working on festival eats together.

I spent the whole of last week catching up with my aunt and cousin. We went sightseeing and ate at restaurants we've never been to before.It was a morning 'til night thing. I'm exhausted, yes but I carry with me now many beautiful moments that make me smile every time I think back.

This is us at a cosy modern Korean cafe at Publika mall. Just outside the restaurant is a children's playground. It's a good place to catch up with the girlfriends and bring the kids.

I ordered  a chicken rice burger. It was really good. At first impression, I thought the cheese was slathered with typical sweet chilli sauce, the kind on a Malaysian Ramly burger. I'm glad it wasn't. This was different.

My aunt called for grilled marinated beef slices with rice. This is very much like comfort food. Satisfying on the taste buds.

My cousin had tomato cheese rice. It doesn't look like much, but it was tasty. Check out the egg - begging for a photo shoot is how I would describe it!

We enjoyed our makan (eat) session. The staff was fun and friendly. They were attentive too!

I picked up the bill. It was something I'd been meaning to do ever since my last trip back to the town I was born in. My aunt and cousin have always been there for me in both tough and cheerful times. I love them dearly.

25 3 Bags Full, Kota Damansara - A Valentine's Day Gem

A cosy ambiance, beautiful food and impeccable service - all the qualities for romantic dates and our emotional well-being. 3 Bags Full is a neat little restaurant located in Kota Damansara. The underrated facade gives no clue to the warmth that it will bring to the heart once you step inside.

There are days my moods call for something out of the norm; away from hawker fare and the ABCs. Something to revitalise my spirit. That I saw in the shape of a monster milkshake (picture below) that looked like my plant. Greenery is a mood booster ........ I read it somewhere! It was topped with cucumber and fresh mint; two ingredients that are known to invigorate our senses. I decided there and then that I would come here for the benefits it will bring to my health. You should too. It was good.

Nonsense aside, this is called The Green Goblin. It's a monster milkshake of avocado-bananas sinfully topped with Kit Kat, marshmallows and a macaron along with a flourish of whipped cream. Extremely delicious! My mental health was restored instantly.

And then, there's the other stuff. You'd think I'd be pretty full from the milkshake, but I wasn't. I started with a meat appetiser and ordered two mains. Machoman went for salmon, I had the chicken.

The waitress who took our order was down-to-earth friendly and attentive. I loved her smile.

Not an extensive menu, but the food was good. Personally, I feel that they could have included at least two more chicken dishes for me to choose from - something simple and at a cheaper price (because I love chicken ..haha...).

Food prices were a little steep but this was a special occasion. I knew what I was getting into. It was a soul treatment that I gladly paid for as I would a body massage. I enjoyed my makan (eat) session tremendously.

This is a wonderful place for a mental recharge and as you can see, romantic dates too. It is a Valentine's Day gem. I'll be back to try the rest of the monster milkshakes on the menu!
