22 Instant Kampua Mee from Sibu!

This is it, Kampua Mee. Not just any kampua mee but 'the' one from Sibu.

I first heard about Kampua Mee from Rose of Rose' World, who mentioned it on her blog. It looked so good that I was itching for a taste. The other reason? I just love trying out new stuff.

Anyone can walk up to me and say that something's not delicious, but it will never thwart my plans to try it for myself. For me, taste is a personal thing. Some will like it, some will not.

Anyway, back to this delightful kampua mee which Rose was kind enough to send over so that I could have a taste. Thank you, Rose! ;)

Bang, bang, bang! The postman knocked loudly on my door late one evening, while I was mulling over what to cook for dinner. I was really excited to see the package. I had no idea what was inside, of course and tore it open as soon as I had signed off the mailing slip.

Look what I got:

Sibu Instant Kampua!

Isn't it lovely? Each packet of noodle comes with two packs of seasoning. One of soy sauce and one of lard. L-a-r-deedah..you read right. And that's what makes this instant noodle so special. Well that, and the fact that this mee is sundried and free from preservatives.

I decided at that moment that this would be dinner. It's really simple to make. Boil the noodles in water until it is softened/cooked. Drain and stir in the seasoning. I added some extra ingredients, topping the noodles with fried minced pork and garlic. Then, it was garnished with slices of chili and spring onions. Makes it a little more vibrant.

Voila! Nice? Yes, hubs asked for more...more! I found it yummy and very different from the regular instant noodles we find in supermarkets.

If you're keen to try some for yourself, contact Rose. I'm just kidding!

You should really contact 'thekitchensibu' on Facebook. I believe they've worked something out for those residing in KL/Selangor.

10 MyKuali's Instant Noodle Tops The Ramen Rater's List

Malaysia's MyKuali Penang White Curry Noodle made it to the number one spot in The Ramen Rater's list of 'Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time 2014 Edition' recently.

Last year, it was the fastest selling instant noodle in the country. Boxes were literally flying off the shelves. Unscrupulous parties targeted desperate buyers, offering what stock they had at a higher price.

The hype has eased. A number of copycats have since emerged in the market. Some are quick to point out, "Brand X is better!",  "Brand Y is more delicious!"  I guess it's one man's meat, another man's poison. No one can dictate who likes what, yes? It's a personal thing. MyKuali Penang's White Curry Noodle may not have won 'everyone's' hearts, but it has moved many rumbling tummies and gained hordes of fans.

Is it an aye for me? I think it's really slurp-worthy. The broth is rich and flavourful. MyKuali has upped the ante in InstantNoodleDom by adding a little oomph into the otherwise quiet industry of instant noodles. Whether anyone realises it or not, this deserves memorable mention in Malaysia's instant noodle history.

I'm just someone who has never been able to appreciate instant curry noodles as it is. I've always stirred in a spoon of tom yum paste for that bit of sour in the soup. So, if you're wondering if MyKuali's White Curry Noodle wows my palate, I would honestly 'no' that.... at least not until I add my teaspoon of tom yum paste. I do the same for the other brands too. I'm a tom yum curry kinda girl, and woefully, have yet to find anything in the market that caters to my instant noodle needs.

Ready to be slurped!

As a Malaysian, I bask in pride that a local brand is making waves beyond our shore.

That said, variety is the spice of life. I enjoy several brands of instant noodle. This is the latest that's made it into my shopping list.
