3 Genie Wong : Limited Edition EP

My story on talented singer-songwriter Genie Wong was published earlier in the year on I.M. - Jazzing Up Borneo Airwaves - IM Magazine

Days ago, Genie released a limited edition EP in the form of a thumb drive. Cute isn't it? I ordered two for Christmas. I figured this would make a great gift for a couple of friends. It contains three of her original songs and two special editions, plus a music video. For RM25, I thought it was a steal.

Have you heard any of Genie's songs? This is a recently released music video of Liar Liar, a cosy number that's easy to get addicted to. It's one of my favourite hums.

I chanced to talk to Genie a little about her music video. Just two questions.

What was the inspiration for your video?
Genie: Simplicity. The message I convey in my songs are simple.

What was the hardest thing you faced while recording this video?
Genie : Hahaha..I can't stop looking at the camera. It was like 'in my way' and I didn't know what to do with my hands!

2 Sixth Sense - A Sense of Pride

They made the cut....to play in the Penang Island Jazz Festival's fringe events which is happening this December!

There's always this little burst of pride whenever I hear news of people doing great things back in my hometown.

We have no real celebrities to speak of. Dreams are often put away for a steady clerical job. The unambitious old folks feel that money in the pocket for a house and a car is what living is all about . Anything else seeming to add colour to mundane life is of little importance. Calling it a "sleepy town" is apt.

Occasionally, someone breaks out of the mould. I'm talking about Sixth Sense, of course. Founded by a group of talented Labuanites who have a long-standing love for music.

I admire their determination. Despite a challenging environment, they never lost their passion in taking an active role in the local music scene.

Here they are on another milestone in their music career ~ An opportunity to showcase their talent in the Penang Island Jazz Festival, a prestigious event hosting some of the world's best musicians.

This means traveling across the South China Sea. They need some help to get them over. 
I'm just spreading the word.

The Penang Island Jazz Festival (PIJF) is happening this December 5th to 8th. Mark your calendars because it is one of the most amazing events of the year. I was there last year and enjoyed it tremendously -  PIJF 2012 fringe event.

0 Adam Lambert - The glamour and the clamour

At the end of the concert, I was sure I lost some of my hearing. That's what you get when Adam Lambert's 10,000 strong Malaysian fans scream in euphoria.

Peace, was when he sang an acoustic version of "Whataya want from me". The crowd sang along and I felt as though we were all falling under a magical spell from the doe eyed looks I could see on everyone's faces.

It was a good crowd with a mix of all ages. No worries about being the old lady trying to fit into the young fold, like some of the concerts I've been to.

Seeing his live performance was an out-of-this-world experience for me. He was one of those guys who could really sing the highs and the lows comfortably. Never would you have to worry about paying money for a squawk on the mic.

Adam Lambert didn't disappoint his fans. As good on the telly as he is live! He's an outstanding performer with great stage presence. Glamour? He dressed the part, without the diva attitude.

But not all of us are fans. Outside the stadium, was a clamour of protest against his gay lifestyle.

0 Orianthi - The Concert

Orianthi - You should kick yourself if you missed her live performance at KL Life Centre recently, 4th August to be exact. 

An accomplished Guitarist with a string of famous names (Michael Jackson, Santana, Prince, Carrie Underwood and more) to her profile, she shows us she's earned success with good ol hard work and unmistakeable talent. Wiki says so.

She owned the stage with great vocals and easily passed the "down-to-earth" test with good crowd interaction. I was blown away by her guitar play - one hand? She's hotter than my sambal for sure.

Sorry it's shaky! I found it hard-pressed to stay still, with such an infectious crowd jumping to the music :)

KL Life Centre - The queue in

0 Tickets to Orianthi, Kuala Lumpur

Here I was, wayYyy past the commonly acceptable age to go ga-ga over young singers, rushing to collect a pair of tickets to Orianthi's concert.

Carmen (From Universal Music) desperately tried to reach me by phone since Friday. I was in the shower both times! I returned her call of course, but the voicemail wouldn't let me through. It was a trivial pursuit I could do without. Patience paid off Monday morning :)

0 My very own radio station

Sick and tired of radio channels not playing my favourite songs ...yeap...that's me. Always changing channels, hoping to find a song I'd like to hear.

My partner has nagged me countless times about my itchy fingers, which never leaves the radio in peace. Hey, I don't see why I have to put up with daily traffic updates for many areas which does not concern me - one station providing this service is fine but any more than that really gets on my nerves. They even announce it almost at the same time..gahh!

Then, there's more blah blah with the radio ads and DJs. I don't mind news from Fly FM. It's funky and different. What I do mind are DJs who go in unprepared and long radio ads.
